Know more about the project

Poultry

Local chicken production is widely spread in rural areas of Yemen as it occupies many families and provides them with essential animal proteins. It is also a source of additional income for many households who sell eggs at higher prices than intensively grown production units. Rural families detain also important knowledge in matter of chicken’s resistance to diseases. Local chicken represents about 30% of animals used for eggs’ production whereas their eggs represent only 14% of the available production of eggs in the country. Local chickens are bred in villages under basic shelters made of stones and bricks, covered with branches, straws and other tree releases and closed with simple doors made with similar natural materials. Chicken houses are usually joined to the other livestock houses.
